For
easiest assembly, first place the Absorptive Front Panel on the
floor (face down). Next, insert the Poly-Diffuser (textured side
out) into the slot nearest you. Last, bend the Poly-Diffuser away
from you and insert into the other slot. For a full assembly description,
download the PDF.
Stand the assembled PlanarTrap upright and gently slide
the Poly-Diffuser down until it is seated at the floor.
The finished PlanarTrap can now be placed around the
room to give excellent sound conditioning.
Applications
Place PlanarTrap against walls at points of sound
reflections and low frequency propagation.
PlanarTrap Field Notes:
By using ray tracing (ASC Optical Alignment Kit), the PlanarTrap
is located in the room to intercept a number of sound paths. Here's
one particularly interesting combination used with small 2-way setup
for near field listening.
(A) PlanarTrap is located to backscatter sound
that has hit the corner behind the speaker which then reflects across
the outside of the speaker to hit the listener. Moving it back and
forth changes the brightness of the air behind the speakers.
(B) PlanarTrap is located at the cross point
of the wall reflection from both speakers. It is set up to absorb
the L-R crosstalk wall bounce and backscatter the near wall bounce.
These adjustments to ray path greatly improves imaging by eliminating
strong image distorting reflections while adding an expansive feeling
to the room.
